These degrees are offered by community colleges, junior colleges, and standard four year colleges and universities. In many fields, the associates degree is all that is required for employment in the field.

An Online Associates Degree is generally going to cost less and be focused on basic education and foundational knowledge crucial to the particular field of study. Some Online Associate Degrees stand alone as the certification training needed for employment and other Online Associate Degree programs are intended primarily as transfer degrees. There are Associate degrees in general studies and Baccalaureate studies that are specifically designed as programs that will transfer to a four year college or university.

One thing that should be considered is whether or not transfer of credits is going to be required or necessary for a particular career path. My oldest friend in the world died today.

I met Forest around the 2nd grade. We became best friends in 7th grade. At the end of the 8th grade he moved to Phoenix. Despite the distance we always stayed close. We wrote hundreds of letters. Whenever we could we would get together. Sometimes just for a few hours, sometimes a few days. We’d see all our old haunts and friends. We both grew and changed–we both stayed the same.

Forest became a musician. It seemed he could play any instrument he came on. The guitar was his baby. He was in love with ’60s psychedelic music.

Around the end of high school he began to party. I really didn’t see him much while he was partying. He knew I was against his drinking and drug abuse so I guess he kept it from me as well as he could.

He came to town one week. We had a great time, but I noticed that ever day he’d be drinking. Finally after I’d gone to work one day he put on a real bender. He painted a strange and depressed painting and drank all the wine he could find in the house. He left a note that said "sorry Bert, I fucked up" and he left for the bus station. I didn’t hear from him for about five years.

Then one day I got a letter from him. He had been sober for about a year and was active in AA. He didn’t ask for forgiveness or anything, he just was writing to admit his wrongs so that he could move past all the things in his past. We became dear friends again.

He kept his sobriety and showed that he was stronger than most who get as deep into alcohol and hard drugs as he did. He’s not had a drop in over 7 years now.

He got into college and began working on a degree in literature. He met a beautiful girl named Jessi. I remember him telling me how in love he was with her. He didn’t really think a girl like her would see anything in a guy like him. He was wrong. Once I met her I understood why he though she was such a goddess. He loved her completely.

When I got married I asked him to come and stand there and say the words that would join April and me together.

Just like old times, anytime he came up this way he’d give me a call and we would all get together again and go around seeing the places which held our childhood.

I saw him the last the week of Thanksgiving. We drove to Lubbock where he was visiting his grandparents and we all went out for a fine dinner. We joked and laughed.

This morning Jessi called me and told me they had found him dead in his bed. No one knows what happened. He was healthy and had never been sick. He was 35. No one knows. No one knows.

I am so sad.
