I want to go back to school to be a dental hygienist which is an AS degree. So I know my AA will get me into a bachelors program but will the credits transfer for an AS degree?

Just because you have an AA, doesn’t mean you can transfer automatically to a bachelors program. You need to go to Assist.org, check out the college your from and the one you want to transfer to, then it will show you the courses that the university wants you to take in order to transfer as a junior.

Oh, and to anwser your question, I do know that the course from your AA can be double counted, that is, they can also count for the units needed to transfer to a 4-year university. But, I do not know if they will count for an AS…I don’t want to mislead you. But I doubt it.

im very glad that i have an AA in english but now i’ve decided that i actually want to teach English. how should i go about this. i know i have to go to university but am i supposed to take teaching classes or what. i tried asking the advisers at my previous school but they weren’t sure exactly how to help me and i just got frustrated. i tried calling another local university but she couldn’t understand my question. does anybody understand what im asking and can they help me out.

You can get the information from the state board of education in your state capital. If you cannot find the info online, phone them and keep phoning until you are connected to a knowledgeable person. If necessary, you can make a personal visit if you do not live too far from the capital city. Try to make an appointment before you go.

It is difficult to believe that you cannot obtain this information from your local state public four-year college. You need to ask at the department of education, not the department of English. (In California you need a bachelor’s degree in English, and a teaching credential which takes an additional year to earn, to teach English in high school.)

Another resource would be your old high school English teacher, who knows exactly what he or she had to do to qualify.
