That re-certification process addresses the changing nature of the work performed by the pharmacist. It does not deal with the material that a student should have learned about how to interact with patients. It does not seek to alter the information the student should have learned about medical history. However, it does call attention to expected changes in two other areas.

One of those is the pharmacy setting. The technician who works with a pharmacist must have a basic understanding of that setting. As advances in medicine change the nature of what the pharmacist must do, that setting could also change.

The most significant area in which a technician should expect changes is that of biopharmaceutics. The development of proteomics promises to bring great changes to that area of the pharmaceutical field. That is the science of analyzing and predicting the proteins that will be produced by genes. It relies greatly on bioinformatics, an area that is tied closely to the subject of biopharmaceutics.

In short, anyone who plans to work closely with a pharmacist now and in the future should anticipate major changes. He or she should feel ready to learn about the fields of proteomics and genomics. The ongoing advances in those fields are guaranteed to alter the scope of knowledge that must be acquired by a trained pharmacy technician.

Q&A: best degrees to have WITH Healthcare Admin. degree?

I have a B.A of Social Work, with intern experience in independent living and skilled nursing facilities. My goal is to complete a Health Service Administration, MHA, or Long Term Care Administration masters, something in that field.

I have to return home to complete my internship before I am awarded my Bachelors of Social Work, so while I am there I figured I could complete a AA at the community college. Not just for the resume but to learn skills.

my goal is to open up residential care homes. I want to get an A.A in accounting, management, business, or something along those lines.

What is the best A.A to pair with a Bachelors of Social work, Masters of Healthcare Admin.

I was thinking that I need to know accounting (and even if it wasn`t that impressive on a resume having a A.A in accounting would give me enough skills to handle the books when i own/operate) and I figured management/business A.A might help.
I know the social work major is not that impressive for health care management, but I think with my geriatric focus, I will get good experience in the field and paid experience also. I already have interned at a independent living, and start this summer doing 2 semesters at a 120 bed skilled nursing facility.

So the social work should help for something I hope. It will help me understand the medicaid/medical/SSI reimbursements and other things i hope.

My main point is, what would be the best option to have with an MHA.

I dont have great math /accounting skills so i was thinking for personal use accounting AA would help. Or would economics be better.

I would like the A.A to at least show im proficient in that area.

I don’t disagree with your thoughts on the accounting degree since you have a definite goal to operate residential care homes. If you ever considered working for an MCO, business administration coupled with your health service administration degree would make you a powerhouse.
